The University of the West of England (UWE) in Bristol have launched a new campaign featuring Bloodhound SSC under the headline "Next stop a land speed record", but the next stop in question might just be a bus stop near you!
The campaign will feature on prominent billboards and buses in four cities – Bristol, Plymouth, Cardiff and Birmingham - and is underpinned by stories on the University’s social media and web site http://www.facebook.com/uwelifestories
UWE Bristol is one of the UK’s largest universities and works very closely with employers to meet future skills shortages – whether they are in Health, Business or Engineering. The University is working particularly closely with engineering employers in the region, such as GKN, Rolls Royce, Airbus, to close future skills gaps and support the growth of the economy.
UWE has had a close partnership with the development of Bloodhound SSC right from the beginning of the project, being one of the Founder Sponsors and hosting the first Bloodhound project office in a room at the Frenchay campus even before the project was announced to the public in October 2008. They consider projects like this to be a key way of engaging young people in an engineering career in a similar way to Concorde, another Bristol project, did in the 70s.
With Bloodhound SSC reaching a key part in its development, the university is keen to raise the profile even higher. It will sit alongside other advertising for another engineering project, the University’s Bristol Robotics Lab
